It was an honor to be elected Mayor in 2022. From the start of my tenure, I’ve watched with pride as our community has come together to accomplish so much, like taking first steps in establishing a police department, diversifying our tax base to keep our tax rate low, and passing strong economic development policies to protect our peaceful quality of life. But we still have much to do and I promise, with your support, I’ll continue taking a collaborative, hard-working and positive approach to keeping our city the best place to call home.
– Aledo Mayor, Nick Stanley
Mayor Nick Stanley’s track record of positive results.
Establishing a Police Department
With our continued growth, improving public safety to protect families, schools, and businesses was a key goal of Mayor Stanley. During his first term, and through his previous leadership as a Councilman, the Aledo Police Department is scheduled to be up and fully running by the end of March and will be led by an experienced and well-regarded Police Chief.
Enacted Policies for Smart Economic Growth
As Mayor, one of Stanley’s highest priorities is protecting Aledo from substandard, low-quality development. Since taking office, Stanley has worked with city leaders on a Unified Development Code, resisted efforts to construct dense development, and established sound economic policies that give the Council greater control over real estate plans with more significant public input.
Increased Communication & Transparency
To keep residents and businesses informed is critical, especially in times of emergency. The City hired its first Communications & Engagement Manager, established a consistent and reliable presence on social media, and created “Aledo Alert,” an opt-in text messaging platform to communicate with residents and business owners. These new programs have allowed the Mayor and City Council to provide more information regularly to their constituents.
Diversified the Tax Base – By adding multiple new restaurants and small businesses, we’ve provided new jobs in our community and added significantly to our commercial tax base to ease the tax burden on homeowners.
Secured More Than $30 Million to Expand Wastewater Treatment Plan
Our wastewater treatment plan is critical to the City’s long-term success as we continue to welcome new residents and businesses each year.
Rebuilt Bailey Ranch Road
Previously in considerable disrepair, this major arterial road in Aledo serves the Parks of Aledo development, the Fire Department, and the Aledo High School/Administration campus. By rebuilding Bailey Ranch Roach, we have improved public safety and reduced traffic congestion so working families can spend less time commuting.
Improved Our City Parks
The City of Aledo has made a significant investment in our parks, replacing outdated and non-code-compliant equipment and investing in shade structures.
Started Construction on a New City Hall
To better serve our growing population, the construction of a new City Hall is underway and is estimated to be completed within budget toward the end of this year or early 2026.
Established Aledo Public Library
The City of Aledo took over the financially struggling East Parker County Library last year to ensure continued public library access. Now called the Aledo Public Library, it will get a new home in the new City Hall and provide reading and research opportunities for our children and residents.
Executed City Audits & Improved City Bond Rating
Under Mayor Stanley’s leadership, the City of Aledo has conducted two audits to ensure it spends its limited tax revenue wisely. These audits have led to a higher bond rating, which allows for lower interest rates on our municipal bonds.
